🎬Tzu Chi (DAAI TV & Recycling Experience)♻️

I’m already familiar with the Tzu Chi Foundation from their branch in Indonesia. Their school and hospital in Jakarta have similar architecture to Tzu Chi Taiwan. I also know about DAAI TV because one of the organizations where I’ve volunteered was interviewed by DAAI TV in Indonesia. However, I was never directly involved in any activity related to Tzu Chi or know about their history. I’m grateful to be able to visit Tzu Chi Taiwan, which is also the place where this organization was built by Master Cheng Yen. I can sense that the staff and volunteers truly work from the heart, and they treat all beings with love. We got to experience a cool interactive installation for children to educate them about disaster management and environmental protection. We also try their broadcasting studio, eat vegetarian food, and help volunteers to recycle waste. We met with a 90-year-old grandma who still volunteered to recycle waste; her dedication is amazing.

I didn’t expect that the performance would be this important because we will perform for the TMU School of Pharmacy reunion. I feel honored to be trained directly by the master from the Zhen-Zong performing art group. The training lasts for 2 and a half days. The movement was simple but needed a lot of energy. With our diverse body fitness, we trained really hard as a group to complete the whole performance. We also had a duel with real weapons, so some of us got hurt during the practice. However, I’m glad all of us can perform at the event. From the final performance video, we looked like professionals. I’m really proud of all of us. This is not the first time I performed as a group. Each time, I always feel impressed about the teamwork and encouragement to one another. I feel an enormous positive energy from all of the performers, even the supporters behind our performance, who made sure all of our needs, safety, costume, and face paint are kept in check.

🔬Health Courses👩🏻‍🦼

We visited the rehabilitation robotics center at TMU hospitals that include upper and lower limbs. I visited TMUH several times, and I’m always curious about this department because I’m only familiar with the conventional rehabilitation center. VT got a chance to try the lower limb rehabilitation machine. It looked so sophisticated and fun as well because they integrated games so that the patient didn’t get bored during the session. We also saw one patient that had a physical therapy session with the lower limb walk-on suit. The suit enabled them to practice walking without being stuck on the treadmill machine. The upper limb machine also integrates games, tasks, and sensors that can detect the hand position and movement. TMU also participated in the Cybathlon competition this year at ETH Zurich. I hope that they can help more disabled people in the future with their invention. Furthermore, we had an anatomy class about applications of ApoE-knockout mice in cardiovascular disease. I couldn’t watch the demonstration on mice models for too long because I felt nauseous, but I could use the microscope and observe the histology samples. Too bad I couldn't absorb that much knowledge during the lecture, so I got a low mark for the test. 對不起,老師!

💂🏻‍♂️Martyr’s Shrine-Taipei City Hall, 👑National Palace Museum, and 🦐Shrimp fishing

Guard changing at Martyr’s Shrine Taipei City Hall was interesting because the guard can keep their good posture and flat face for so long; I can’t relate. They’re so well coordinated and have great teamwork for the short attraction show. At the National Palace Museum, John transformed to become our tour guide. He showed us around and told us the story of the most interesting pieces of all the national treasures. Now I knew about the worth of the brightly colored coral, the exam God, the pot with historical writings inside, the beauty standard in the past, the hard pillow, the beautifully carved ivory, and the gifts from European aristocrats to the king, and the most interesting piece, cabbage-shaped jade. After that, we went to catch our dinner. It’s my first time shrimp fishing, and I felt bad for the shrimp when I was about to release the hook from their mouth. It seems painful. Anyway, I caught 5 of them, and later on we had dinner with other dishes that the owner cooks. All dishes taste delicious.
